Datia is a district in Madhya Pradesh. It is 78 kms from Gwalior. This town has a border with Uttar Pradesh. Datia is an ancient town. In Mahabharata it is mentioned as Daityavakra.
The town is surrounded by a stone wall, enclosing with beautiful gardens and palaces. Cotton and grain products are traded in this town. The palace of Vir Singh Deo of the 17th century is an outstanding example of the Hindu architecture of North India. It is famous for the seven-story palace buit in 1614.
There are many temples in this town. At the entrance of Datia is the Peetambra Peeth, a well known Shaktipitha. This is just 1 km away from the town’s bus station and 3 kms from the Datia railway station.
