Dussehra Festival in Hyderabad

Vijayadasami also known as Dussehra is an important Hindu festival celebrated in a variety of ways in India.
We have been there several times shooting Dussehra in Hyderabad during our Photowalks in Hyderabad.

Dasa-hara is a form of Ravana’s defeat. The day marks the victory of Shri Rama over Ravana in Treta Yuga.

The day also marks the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura, in Dwapar yuga. The goddess fought with evil for ten days and nine night.

Dussehra,Vijaya Dashami, Dasara, or Dashain is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. As per Hindu calendar this is marked on the 10th day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Ashvin (Ashwayuja.

There are many local celebrations in some areas in India that can last for up to 10 days. Local events include:
Performances of the Ramlila (a short version of the epic Ramayana).
A large festival and procession including the goddess Chamundeshwari on a throne mounted on elephants in the town of Mysore in the state of Karnataka.

The blessing of household and work-related tools, such as books, computers, cooking pans and vehicles.
The preparation of special foods, including luchi (deep fried flat bread) and alur dom (deep fried spiced potato snacks).

The Bengali community is known for the Durga puja celebrations all over the world and Hyderabad is no expection. There are several commitees that organise the puja in the traditional ways in several parts of the city.

Apart from that, the local communities also celebrate it with much fervour.
