Kumbhalgarh Fort- The Great Wall Of India

Kumbhalgarh fort is located in the Rajsamand district near Udaipur of Rajasthan. It is constructed on the foothills of Aravalli ranges. It is the birth place of Maharana Pratap, the great warrior and king of Mewar. The fort was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. It is the most prominent fort in Mewar after the Chittorgarh Fort. In 2013 UNESCO declared Kumbhalgarh Fort and  five other forts of Rajasthan as World Heritage Site under the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

During Rana Kumbha ruling 32 forts were biult, out of which Kumbhalgarh is considered the most remarkable architectures of Mewar rulers. There are many creative structures inside the fort. There are around 360 temples built across the fort, out of which 300 are Jain temples and the rest are Hindu temples. The fort is located on top and gives spectacular view of the fort and its surroundings, due to which it is known as The Palace of Clouds or the Badal Mahal.

The wall of the Kumbhalgarh fort runs through the whole fort, regarded to be the longest wall in the world after the great wall of China. It is often called as “the Great Wall of India”. The wall is 36 km distance and 15 m wide.

The fort is now open to the general public. The main attraction is the sound and light show in the evening which attracts many tourists. Kumbhalgarh is 100 km from Udaipur. This fort is the second largest fort after Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan.
