Laad Bazaar

Laad Bazaar is the first thing that comes to our mind when we hear Charminar. It is a very old and famous market known mainly for bangles also known as Choodi Bazaar. Charminar, Chowmahalla Palace, Mecca Masjid are the closest landmarks to Laad Bazaar. It is located on one of the four roads from Charminar.

The word Laad which means Lacquer is one of the main material used to make bangles which very is much favored among visitors. Most of the shops sell bangles with artificial diamonds studs, pearls, jewellery, semi precious stones, silverware, Kalamkari and Nirmal paintings, saris, perfumes or attar perfumes, bags, embroidered fabrics, burka stores, handwoven materials of silk, cotton, textiles. It is about 1 km long shopping street. It is said that it was since the time of the Qutab Shahis and the Nizams.

It’s considered to be the go-to place for wedding shopping in Hyderabad. This is almost the perfect place for a women to buy all the things on her shopping list for any occasion. One has to be able to bargain and haggle in this market to buy anything as it is considered to be the natural part of it.

Earlier it was called as Lord Bazaar, has extensive sales during Ramzaan season. Tourists from all over the world specially from America and Europe who visit Hyderabad definitely stops at this place and purchase the elegant multi-colored bangles. It has more than 350 shops selling the lac bangles with the stones on it. It is said that more than 150 workshops manufacture these variety bangles there.

Though all the stores open at 11 in the morning, the best time is to go in the evenings. Since the auto rickshaws and cars are not allowed, only bicycles and two wheelers are allowed from the Charminar’s entrance, people have to walk all around the place.
